THE LIFE CYCLE OF MICROBEADS
FROM PRODUCT TO PLATE
Microbeads are tiny plastic microspheres that are added to many personal care products as exfoliating agents.
Fish and wildlife consume these toxic microbeads, making its way into the food chain.
They are designed to wash down the drain, but because of their tiny size, standard filtration fails to remove them from waterways.
A single plastic microbead can be one hundred times more toxic than the water around it. Fish often mistake these microbeads as food and eat them.
